Cameron Parish Goals
Environmental
  • Identify and implement partnerships, programs, and mechanisms to support debris removal, particularly hazardous debris, left on federal and state lands within 12-24 months.
  • Implement needed marsh creation and flood protection measures using the beneficial dredge materials from the Shipping Channel and Old River Loop within two years.    View Projects
  • Begin implementation of programs and best practices for the Gulf Intracoastal Water Way which balance the needs of industry/commerce with preserving the hydrological/ecological health of the Calcasieu, Sabine and Mermentau basins within the next five years.    View Projects
Housing and Community Development
  • Establish the infrastructure to finance, facilitate, and manage the construction and repair of 3,000 units of housing and related services through a variety of funding programs and initiatives over the next 60 months.    View Projects
  • Develop 100 units of elderly housing over the next 3 years, and 50 units annually for the following five years, thereby meeting the needs of 50% of the elderly households whose homes were destroyed.    View Projects
  • Create a Master Plan to guide the rebuilding effort and implement appropriate land use controls, including zoning, to maximize land use within 12-24 months.    View Projects
  • Create a Master Facilities Plan to coordinate and maximize the rebuilding of all public buildings within 12-24 months.
  • Ensure that all homes and structures meet the new building code and elevation requirements through enforcement.
Economic and Workforce Development
  • Identify and implement economic development incentives for maritime, gas, and oil industries to increase to pre-storm level tax revenue within 24 months.    View Projects

Public Health and Healthcare
  • Repair, rebuild or replace Mosquito Control Unit facilities, including 2 planes, office and maintenance barn within 6-12 months.
  • Provide health care services, facilities and workforce training in order to support a health care system that meets the changed needs resulting from hurricanes Katrina and Rita, by 2012.    View Projects
Transportation and Infrastructure
  • Repair, stabilize and harden 62 miles of Highway 27, and 84 miles of Highway 82, to support residential, commercial, industry and evacuation traffic within 5 years.    View Projects
  • Repair, rebuild or replace 4 existing major bridges within 5 years that experience repetitive losses in storm events.    View Projects
  • Complete a feasibility study to determine appropriate improvements for a safe and efficient channel crossing in the area of docks, marinas and fishing industries near the mouth of the Calcasieu Ship Channel, with implementation of recommendations within 10 years.    View Projects
  • Upgrade all appropriate facilities for storm resistance and recovery, through tested construction methods, emergency generators, and other forms of disaster preparedness within 5 years    View Projects

Education
  • Replace or consolidate three destroyed public schools and administrative offices.
Public Safety
  • Repair, rebuild or replace all governmental buildings and offices that were destroyed or damaged over the next three years.    View Projects
  • Conduct a needs assessment and develop a geographic information system (GIS) within the next 12-24 months, with parish wide application to record, track and display plans and activities during recovery and afterwards.    View Projects
  • Repair, rebuild or replace 5 fire facilities within 5 years.

Human Services
  • Repair, replace or relocate four destroyed public libraries and two damaged libraries within 3 years.
  • Repair, replace or relocate four destroyed community centers, including the replacement of the Cameron Recreation District facilities within 3 years.
Flood Protection and Coastal Restoration
  • Begin to restore and protect the sand cheniers in lower Cameron by restoring degraded areas and reducing the future amount of sand mining within 12-24 months.    View Projects
  • Protect 60 miles of Cameron Parish’s Gulf Coast Shoreline, between Vermilion and Texas border, through the construction of segmented nearshore breakwaters over the next five years.    View Projects
  • Create regional emergency storm water management plans, within 12-24 months, at the watershed level, aimed at reducing the duration and negative impacts of floodwaters during storms.    View Projects
  • Conduct an elevation monitoring survey within 12-24 months to establish accurate elevation benchmarks, replacing the ones lost due to subsidence in Cameron, and which are necessary for community recovery and rebuilding.    View Projects
