Terrebonne Parish Recovery Vision
The numerous discussions and meetings held throughout the Parish provided ideas on what kind of future was envisioned for Terrebonne Parish. Although no single “vision” was identified, the following attempts to capture the essence of what was expressed by the citizens, elected officials, and associated agencies:
As a parish culturally, economically, and socially dependent on its fragile ecosystem and location along the Gulf of Mexico, the citizens of Terrebonne Parish recognize that a balance between preserving and protecting the environment and facilitating residential and commercial development for all citizens and businesses in the Parish must be maintained. Critical to striking this balance is the stabilization of our estuaries, proper provision of hurricane protection systems, maintaining an adequate supply of quality affordable housing for all citizens and recognition of the importance in providing transportation alternatives as well as an improved evacuation system so the uniqueness of our culture is preserved and economic opportunities for all residents are enhanced.
The value of this vision is to establish a basic framework in the compilation of this plan. The goal of this plan is, however, not to achieve the vision, but to identify projects that promote recovery and revitalization of the Parish and, therefore, assist in attaining the vision. |
