Beauregard Parish - Local Recovery Vision
While recovering from the damage and human suffering caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita and with compassion for those who endured even greater injury and personal trials; we the residents of Beauregard Parish, with Divine guidance and the participation of all our citizens, embrace the opportunity to repair and improve our buildings, infrastructure and institutions so that we may be better prepared for future trials. In common cause, we look forward to a stronger economy, improved transportation, stronger and more livable neighborhoods, more accessible health care, improved public safety and emergency preparedness, and greater educational and recreational opportunities.
We envision:
- Revitalized city and village historic business districts returning to their role as centers of cultural and social activities for all residents of the parish.
- Rural districts of the parish provided with multi-functional community centers which also provide shelter to our residents during future catastrophes.
- Economic development and retail services in our rural areas supported by modern infrastructure in a compact residential, commercial and retail core area.
- An improved highway and local road system to provide truck bypass opportunities and speedier evacuation routes.
- An expanding and diversified economy and job base as we achieve improvements to our road, water and sanitary sewer infrastructure.
- Increased local educational opportunities from pre-K through college.
- Affordable housing for all age groups.
- Pleasant pedestrian oriented neighborhoods with a variety of housing, safe streets and local parks.
- A political environment that allows cooperation and joint planning to provide for efficient land use and infrastructure development.
- Residential, commercial and retail growth throughout the parish that pays for itself in a planned, sustainable manner.
