Provide a multi-agency communications center that will include St Tammany Fire District #1, Pearl River Police Department, and the Slidell Police Department for more efficient emergency operations and secure police functions above future flood threat levels.
As a result of hurricane Katrina, the Police Department suffered catastrophic loss of emergency facilities. Critical police functions have been severely impeded due to congested available work facilities and the influx of new citizens seeking a safe functional community environment.
The demolition of existing destroyed buildings, acquisition of adjacent land, new construction of a 30,000-square-foot facility to accommodate all police, jail and communication functions with a "sacrificial" first floor dedicated to parking and implementation of state-of-the-art technology, will eliminate future catastrophic loss and enable police functions to better serve the community. First and foremost is the ability to provide protection and property security to all that enter the jurisdiction for business and residential purposes. Without this advantage, Slidell will not survive the challenges of an expanded community.
This project would encourage future business and residential expansion growth in a safe, secure community.
