The people of Plaquemines Parish pulled together to respond to the damage sustained from Hurricanes Katrina and Rita--neighbor helping neighbor. We learned many valuable lessons through this disaster, the most important being that we are a resilient people who want to rebuild and fully return to our normal lives with opportunities to improve our quality of life. We want to be safer, stronger and better than before. The people of Plaquemines Parish have been given a unique opportunity to recover and rebuild our lives and our towns in a way that makes us stronger and able to withstand future storms, affords better life opportunities, and adds to the beauty, culture and unique environments we want to protect.
