Education
The challenges facing educational facilities in Southern Louisiana are great. Students have dispersed around the country, teachers have lost homes and sometimes their jobs, and school buildings need to be repaired or rebuilt. The rebuilding of schools involves many organizations and people, from construction workers to principals and concerned parents. Yet there is no doubt that schools will be rebuilt, and rebuilt better. Schools are central to community life and serve not only children, but also families and the public. As schools are rebuilt and children return, communities begin to heal.
The Education Sector was created with specific input from the Louisiana Recovery Authority and FEMA’s Long-Term Community Recovery Division. Included in this sector:
- Specific goals for creating for creating an improved education system
- An overview of proposed initiatives for the New Orleans public school system
- Details of the statewide Recovery School District
